Drafting & Design Technology/ Technician
This program offers education in Architectural, Electrical, Mechanical and Civil drafting . Students create technical drawings that are comparable to those used in industry today to construct building, to develop technology, and to manufacture products .
Upon entrance into the program, students gain an understanding of drafting concepts by developing hand drafting skills . This enables them to study fundamental drafting principles such as geometric constructions, isometric views, perspective, and scaling from the beginning. With these principles solidified, students are made ready to step into Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) .
State-of-the-art hardware and software are provided to the students as they transition to computer generated drawings . The Drafting and Design Technology program uses the same AutoCAD software that is used in industry . The students also utilize a large format plotter and a 3-D printer to display their finished products.
As the students progress through this program, they become familiar with common building codes, standard symbols, and correct terminology used in industry . This gives them a competitive advantage over many drafting courses .
Major topics covered in this program include the following:
- Hand Drawing
- Technical Mathematics Architectural Drafting
- Mechanical Drafting
- Solid Modeling
- Computer-Aided Drafting & Design Blueprint Reading
- Electrical Drafting
- Civil Drafting
Students in this program are also eligible to join SKILLS USA and DECA .
Upon completing this program, students can continue their education in the following Bachelor or Associate Degree programs:
- Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering
- Construction Management / Technology
- Design Drafting Technology
- Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Drafter
