*Special Ed. UPDATE
March 30, 2020
Dear CCTI Families,
CCTI is committed to making a good faith effort to provide continuity of education, planned instruction, appropriate, and reasonable services for students while our school districts are closed due to COVID-19. During an extended closure of a school (10 or more consecutive days) due to the COVID-19 health emergency, CCTI will continue to make a “good faith effort” in providing a free and appropriate public education (FAPE), consistent with the need to protect the health and safety of students with disabilities and those individuals providing education, specialized instruction, and related services.
During the extended closure, CCTI will provide special education and related services through distance instruction provided online, videos, and/or other modes, such as email, phone, and non-digital materials sent home. Although CCTI will not be able to provide all services in the same manner they are typically provided, we will continue education services that meet students’ needs. In addition, progress monitoring of IEP goals may not be able to be collected in the same manner they are typically provided. The IEP team will work collaboratively to monitor progress through practices of observation remotely.
Regarding IEP timelines and meetings, CCTI is committed to remaining as compliant as possible during this closure. During the closure, IEP meetings will continue to include the student, parent, LEA, Special Education Case Manager, regular education teacher and CTE representative and will be conducted via phone conference. If these members are not able to participate due to ongoing closure, the opportunity for the team to reconvene once school reopens will be provided.
CCTI Administration, teachers, support staff values education and we value your child. We understand the challenges school closure has caused and want to do our part in ensuring your child has equal access to learning. We also appreciate the expanded role that has been thrust upon parents and we want to be a support for you as well. Please feel free to contact CCTI’s Guidance Counselor during this school closure for counseling needs. CCTI’s Safe 2 Say procedure will remain intact.
As the situation escalates at the national and state level, direction moving forward will be adjusted. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you for your continued cooperation as we work to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and communities.
